Organization

Hey guys! I did a bit of work on the blog here, organizing some stuff. I put my posts into some handy categories so you can find specific things more easily, rather than having to dig through my posts to find exactly what you're looking for.

Basically, I'd like to turn this blog into sort of a fashion/beauty blog that has tips, advice, and my thoughts on some fashion stuff that's pretty prominent. I'm also going to take the time to talk about organization...as in spring cleaning, although it would be more like summer cleaning now :)

The first thing is to take everything out of your super-messy drawers. Re-fold everything, and before you put it all back in in a crazy jumble, make sure that you analyze your drawers. Decide which items should go in which drawers. For example, you could do a system in which you keep one drawer for bras and underwear, one drawer for PJs, one drawer for your tops, one drawer for bottoms, and one drawer for miscellaneous items. That way, you can re-organize your folded items as you put them in the right drawers. Open the top drawer, and dig through your folded items to find all the bras and underwear that you have so you can put them in that drawer. Now, close the drawer, and move on to the next one.

In terms of hanging clothes, color-coordinate them in "rainbow order" and make sure you separate long-sleeved shirts, short-sleeved shirts, skirts, and pants. Keep them in separate sections of your closet. This is just a bunch of reordering in terms of your hangers.

On to jewelry. You can get super cheap organizational things at Target -- just little four-drawer sets and stuff like that. Those should be 10 bucks or less, and they're so handy. You can organize all your long necklaces in one drawer, short necklaces in another, rings in the third, and earrings in the last.

Makeup! You'll want to keep this near your vanity. One creative little idea is to go to your local craft store -- Michaels, Ben Franklin -- and find an unvarnished wooden box, pretty simple. In this, you can put all your eyeshadows, but don't stack them or they won't fit. You can always decorate these to add more flavor. Paint them! Put glitter! You can totally personalize them to make them fit your room style. For your eyeliners, mascaras, brushes, lipliners, lipsticks, lip gloss, etc, etc, etc, etc, you can do a bunch of different things. 1) you can go for another couple of unvarnished wooden boxes. 2) you can buy a set of drawers, and you can categorize your makeup by where it is applied. So your mascara and eyeliner and eyeshadow can all go in one drawer, your lipliner and lipstick and lipgloss can go in another, your brushes can go in the third, foundation and powder in the fourth, you get the picture. 3) You can buy a cosmetics case. A good case is about $30 at Target. This is one of those unfoldable things that you can store everything in, and it folds to a pretty small little case. This is perfect if you're traveling but want to bring hordes of makeup! 4) You can get a clear organizer tray for makeup - it's about $11 at Target. This is great because it has small containers and "cubicles" for different types of makeup.

Some people really like having different bags and cases to hold their makeup in -- so different items in different bags. I don't like this, because it forces you to have tons of little containers everywhere, and it's not like a cohesive unit to me. I like one big unit, or stackable wooden boxes. I like my stuff pretty simple and unified.
